Sod Installation
There are a lot of variables to consider when making sure your sod project gets done right. From grass type decisions, to pre-install irrigation preparation, to grading and post-install care, the list of items that can go wrong, or a homeowner regrets not doing, can be lengthy. We believe we have the most thorough installation process in DFW. We typically start by making a grass type recommendation by considering the clients specific shade and traffic issues. Kids and pets can wreak havoc on St. Augustine, for instance, so we will steer a client towards Zoysia or Bermuda. Once the grass type decision has been made we will spray to kill off the existing lawn. This will ensure that the old grass type does not grow up through the new sod that will be installed. This is a crucial step and is commonly overlooked. Around the same time we conduct an audit of the irrigation system to ensure no breaks a present and coverage is optimal. Once this is complete we will scalp the lawn space down to bare soil. This process exposes the soil completely and from there we will add soil to fill low spots and smooth the entire surface of where the sod will be laid. This too is a crucial step. Ensuring the grade of lawn is smooth absolutely must be done before sod goes down. If your sod is installed on a bumpy surface it can be remedied, however it is tedious work that can take years to get the lawn to where a client may want it. Additionally, we countersink all edges bordering concrete and existing lawn. This will allow the sod pieces to sit flush and not form a "lip" or humped up area on the surface. No different than most things in life, it needs to get done right the first time! Once the lawn space is fully prepped we will be ready to install the sod. We source Palisades Zoysia and Tiftuf Bermuda direct from a farm South of DFW. The consistency we get with these two grass types is unmatched. Fine bladed Zoysias and St. Augustine is sourced through wholesalers in Dallas that pull from different farms across Texas and Oklahoma. Installing the sod is the easy part. Pieces are laid and cut in to conceal seams as best as possible. Once the sod is fully installed we perform a thorough clean up on the property and set a program on the clients irrigation controller based on the watering needs for the week ahead. We apply a fungicide to the sod to help prevent disease during the heavy watering period and check in every 7 days or so for a few weeks after install is complete. We hope you can see from the above procedures that we take our work seriously. Our goal is to make each clients lawn the jewel of their block and a space that can be safely enjoyed for years to come.
